This morning When I got to work, I had no clue the impact of my recent decision to relocate my shop would have on my eight year old niece ,Carly.(I refer to her as Carly Q)
Let me give a brief history , so you will understand the importance of her feelings......
Even before Carly was born ,my sister Lisa would sit in my shop ,very pregnant , very anxious and very supportive of my anxieties being a shop girl !! In fact , Carly was born a few hours after a very long Saturday hanging out on the "man chair " in the shop.
Lisa and my new , quite adorable niece Carly become regular fixtures at my shop when ever their time and my shop hours coincided (which was every Saturday and an occasional weekday )
Got the picture ???? Oh yes , Carly was the mascot and the customers loved her presence She added another dimension to the shop. She would have danceathons and collect change from patrons to give to my favorite charity.... (an Epilepsy camp).Carly would stand in my display window and pretend she was a mannequin, promoting her favorite pick of the day. Needless to say , this is her home away from home !!
After twelve years ,four leases and a feeling of desperation...... It is time to reinvent and step out of the comfort zone I have known all of my shopgirl years
Iam relocating and reinventing myself !! Starting a new adventure !! Two days ago The for rent sign apppeared and the first person to read in horror was Carly !!
I watched as her eyes welled up and she found a comfortable place to nest in the bottom of an armoir cabinet. My heart broke for her . Change is difficult at any stage of life and when you are eight years old , your whole world has been shaken . I immediately started a dialogue about some obscure topic and when I saw Carly feeling a bit more settled , tried to reassure her about the changes and she will be an intrical part of journey.
sometimes ,we have no clue the impact we have made on others.
